# MRT Purple Line: 16 stations, interchanges, fares and condo rents

The MRT Purple Line from Bang Yai to Tao Poon has 16 stations over 22 kilometres, elevated throughout. Fares run 14 to 42 baht under the regulation in force since 3 July 2026, and there are three interchanges: Nonthaburi Civic Center, Bang Son and Tao Poon. Median condo rent on the Bang Sue side is 13,000 baht a month.

## What the Purple Line is and where it runs

The MRT Purple Line, officially the Chalong Ratchadham Line, runs from Bang Yai to Tao Poon. It is a heavy rail system, elevated along the whole route, covering 22 kilometres with 16 stations and designed for up to 50,000 passengers per hour per direction. It opened on 6 August 2016 after construction began on 10 November 2009, and is operated by BEM under a PPP Gross Cost concession signed with MRTA on 4 September 2013.

The line starts at Khlong Bang Phai on Kanchanaphisek Road in western Nonthaburi, heads south, turns into Rattanathibet Road, crosses the Chao Phraya River alongside the Phra Nang Klao Bridge, passes the Nonthaburi provincial government centre, bends into Tiwanon Road near the Khae Rai junction, then follows Krungthep–Nonthaburi and Pracharat roads to its terminus at the Tao Poon junction.

In practice it is the main line that brings Nonthaburi commuters from Bang Yai, Rattanathibet and Tiwanon into the Bangkok rail network. MRTA forecast ridership in the opening year of 2016 at 220,116 trips a day, and the depot sits at Khlong Bang Phai.

## The 16 stations, PP01 to PP16

Khlong Bang Phai (PP01), Talad Bang Yai (PP02), Sam Yaek Bang Yai (PP03), Bang Phlu (PP04), Bang Rak Yai (PP05), Bang Rak Noi Tha It (PP06), Sai Ma (PP07), Phra Nang Klao Bridge (PP08), Yaek Nonthaburi 1 (PP09), Bang Krasor (PP10), Nonthaburi Civic Center (PP11), Ministry of Public Health (PP12), Yaek Tiwanon (PP13), Wong Sawang (PP14), Bang Son (PP15), Tao Poon (PP16).

Most stations are in Nonthaburi province. The last three, Wong Sawang, Bang Son and Tao Poon, are on the Bangkok side in the Bang Sue area, so anyone who wants to live along this line can choose either bank of the Chao Phraya.

## Three interchanges

| Station | Connects to |
| --- | --- |
| Nonthaburi Civic Center (PP11) | MRT Pink Line, its northern terminus |
| Bang Son (PP15) | SRT Red Line, Bang Son station |
| Tao Poon (PP16) | MRT Blue Line, shared station |

Tao Poon matters most: it is a shared station with the Blue Line, so you change trains inside one building and reach the centre either through Bang Sue and Lat Phrao or through Samsen and Hua Lamphong. At Bang Son, one of the ticket hall exits of the Red Line station connects straight into the Purple Line station, which is the fastest way to Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, Don Mueang or Rangsit.

Nonthaburi Civic Center is where the [Pink Line](https://dooasset.com/en/articles/mrt-pink-line-stations-interchanges-fares/) starts, carrying you on to Chaeng Watthana, Lak Si, Ram Inthra and Min Buri without entering the city.

## Fares of 14 to 42 baht, and who rides free

Today's fares follow the MRTA regulation on Chalong Ratchadham Line fares, B.E. 2569, published in the Royal Gazette on 19 June 2026 and in force since 3 July 2026. The table attached to the regulation starts at 14 baht and tops out at 42 baht, depending on how far you travel.

The same regulation sets out three concessions: Thai nationals aged sixty and over pay half the normal fare, rounded up to a whole baht; children no taller than ninety centimetres ride free; and holders of a government-issued disability card ride free on showing the card before boarding.

The regulation also requires the MRTA board to announce the interchange stations where passengers get a transfer discount, under the principle of charging the entry fee only once. Trains run 05.30 to 24.00 Monday to Friday and 06.00 to 24.00 on Saturday and Sunday.

## Four park-and-ride buildings for 5,339 vehicles

| Park and ride | Cars | Motorcycles |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Khlong Bang Phai | 1,986 | 416 |
| Sam Yaek Bang Yai | 1,296 | – |
| Bang Rak Noi Tha It | 1,076 | 100 |
| Yaek Nonthaburi 1 | 565 | 100 |

Rail passengers pay 10 baht for 2 hours of car parking; non-passengers pay 20 baht an hour, and a monthly pass is 1,000 baht. For motorcycles, rail passengers pay 5 baht for 4 hours and non-passengers 10 baht an hour. That is why many buyers take a unit a little away from a station and drive to the end of the line: a month of parking still costs less than the premium on a unit next to the platform.

## The 17 to 45 baht common fare from 1 January 2027

The Ministry of Transport has confirmed the common fare: an entry fee of no more than 17 baht and a maximum of 45 baht per trip across every rail line in Bangkok and its suburbs, the Purple Line included, from 1 January 2027. The right is for Thai nationals who register through the Paotang app in December 2026, linking an EMV credit or debit card, or an existing Rabbit card, to their ID card. The full detail is in our [article on the 17 to 45 baht fare](https://dooasset.com/en/articles/rail-fare-cap-17-45-baht-from-january-2027/).

For anyone commuting daily from Nonthaburi and transferring to the Blue or Green Line, that cap is the real change: the monthly travel cost becomes predictable, which makes the Bang Yai end of the line more attractive against renting in the centre.

## The Tao Poon to Rat Burana extension opens in 2030

The next phase, Tao Poon to Rat Burana (Kanchanaphisek Ring Road), covers 23.6 kilometres, of which 14.3 kilometres are underground and 9.3 kilometres elevated, with 17 stations, 10 below ground and 7 above. Construction began on 25 April 2022, civil works are 67.26% complete, and the MRTA board's programme sets the opening for November 2030.

The route leaves Tao Poon underground through Samsen, the new parliament, Vajira Hospital, Bang Lamphu and Ratchadamnoen, passes under the Chao Phraya at the Phra Pok Klao Bridge, surfaces on the Thonburi side at Prachathipok and Wongwian Yai, then runs elevated along Suk Sawat Road to Khru Nai. Owners around Samsen, Wongwian Yai or Suk Sawat should follow this timeline, and our [Orange Line and Purple South timeline](https://dooasset.com/en/articles/mrt-orange-purple-south-timeline-2026/) has the wider picture.

## Rents and prices along the Purple Line, from live DooAsset listings

From the listings open on DooAsset in October 2026, the median condo rent across Bangkok is 28,000 baht a month from 839 listings, and the median asking price is 7,800,000 baht from 431 listings. The Bangkok end of the Purple Line is clearly cheaper.

| Area | Open listings | Median rent | Median price |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Bang Sue District](https://dooasset.com/en/area/bang-sue-district/) | 14 | 13,000 baht | 2,900,000 baht |
| [Around Tao Poon](https://dooasset.com/en/area/mrt-tao-poon/) | 5 | 13,000 baht | 2,900,000 baht |
| Around Wong Sawang | 2 | 12,500 baht | 2,900,000 baht |
| Around Bang Son | 2 | – | – |

The station figures come from small samples, so treat them as a guide rather than the whole market. The direction is clear, though: rentals around Tao Poon, Wong Sawang and Bang Son sit at 12,500 to 13,000 baht a month, roughly half the Bangkok median, while still reaching Asok or Silom with a single change at Tao Poon.

## How to choose along this line

If you commute into the centre every day, start with the three Bangkok stations: one change and you are on the Blue Line, and the Red Line at Bang Son is a useful backup when the Blue Line is packed.

If budget leads and you do not travel in daily, the Nonthaburi side from the Phra Nang Klao Bridge outwards buys more space for the same money, as long as you add the travel time and the full 42 baht end-to-end fare to your sums.

If you mostly drive, plan around park and ride: live near Khlong Bang Phai or Sam Yaek Bang Yai and use the MRTA buildings, which cost a fraction of hourly parking in town.
