# IMF–World Bank week in Bangkok: roads to avoid, 16 Oct holiday

Thailand hosts the IMF and World Bank annual meetings from 12 to 18 October 2026 at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center, with over 15,000 participants from 190 countries. ## When and where the meetings are

Thailand hosts the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group from 12 to 18 October 2026. The main sessions are at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center on Ratchadaphisek Road, next to Benjakitti Park and on the MRT Blue Line.

Organisers expect upwards of 15,000 delegates drawn from 190 countries, among them finance ministers, central bank governors and their teams. That puts the inner-city stretch from Asok down to Khlong Toei and Rama IV under heavier convoy traffic and security checks all week.

## The holidays and work-from-home days to get right

The Cabinet decided on 19 May 2026 that Friday 16 October 2026 is a special official holiday in Bangkok only, and told government agencies in the capital to have staff work from home on 12, 14 and 15 October 2026 to ease traffic.

If you are buying or selling, 16 October is the date to watch. Anyone with a transfer, a mortgage registration or a cheque to bank in Bangkok that day should call the land office and the bank first. Private-sector staff do not get the day off automatically, and schools are not all closed; hospitals, police and emergency services keep working on shifts.

## Roads to avoid and the areas affected

The official advice is to keep off four streets that ring the venue: Ratchadaphisek, Sukhumvit, Rama IV and Asok Montri. Those are the spine of the inner-east condo market, from Asok down to Khlong Toei and Rama IV.

City Hall says Benjakitti Park stays open as usual from 11 to 18 October 2026, but with changes to entrances, parking and cycling routes: gates 1, 2, 3 and 10 are the ones in use, and water sports at the pedal-boat pier are suspended for now. If you picked your room for the morning run in that park, check the gate before you leave.

The rail network is the fastest way around this week. The useful stations are MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, MRT Khlong Toei and BTS Asok, which connects to MRT Sukhumvit.

3. Plan a move-in outside 12 to 18 October if the building sits on one of the four roads around the venue.
4. Landlords in the area should warn tenants about security checks and changed building entrances in advance.
5. The 13th and the 16th are days off, so if you have time to view rooms, start with areas outside the ring around the venue and you will fit in more viewings.
